Thanks for viewing-i am going to make a cam change in my 70 Challenger. Here is what i know-the engine is a 1970 440 HP-with a compression ratio of about 10 to 1 ( i don't know for sure since i myself did not have the engine bored-or choose the pistons. The 440 now has stock exhaust manifolds, a stock 4 barrel cast intake, a Holley 850 dual feed/double pumper, with a 4 speed, and 3.54 gears. Since building the engine (the car is not yet restored-so i never actually driven it) but i have decided that my cam choice is wrong for my application. The cam now in the engine is a mopar cam with 533 lift and 320 duration-i have heard good and bad stories about this particular cam. I want to go to a smaller cam/and a smaller carb. I will not be racing this car-just wanting to cruise around and have some fun. I must be getting old-because now i am concerned with gas mileage/and easy driving manners. I do however like the "bump" of a big duration cam. I may also change the intake to aluminum also. With a cam and manifold change-do you have any ideas to what the gas mileage may be.
Put a big block 4 speed Scat Pack Dodge in your garage.

Yea a 533 320 is not for you needs at least a 4000 stall and 4.10 or higher gears headers big exhaust. Likes higher compression lots of initial advance 38 total all in by 1200. I had 11 to 1 906 big valves ported. I used one degreed in at 106 4000 stall that flashed to 4400 4.1 gears street strip ran into the 11's with it at 3800 lb . and if I had one now it would be degreed at 104 or sooner.

I would say for a nice cruiser, for me a nice cam is the Comp Cam XL 268 cam or XL 274. I have used it a few times and really like the lope as well as good streetable performance.

Have Bullet grind you the original 231/239@.050 Ultradyne hydraulic grind but go with the 'slow' exhaust ramp. Cut it on 108 centers and put it in at 104. Wall to wall torque and power, choppy idle but Zero drivability issues. Another good choice is the old Crower 231/240 cut on 108 in at 105, can't remember the grind number. Comp has an XE grind that is 231/237 but I don't care for the valvetrain clatter they make on Mopars (basically a Chevy lobe scaled up and driving much heavier Mopar valvetrain) if you have to go Comp the 286 magnum (custom order) 236@.050 single pattern on 110 in at 106 is a good one. Happy Motoring

I have the Comp Cams XE294H in my street driven Charger. I think it is a great street cam. I drive it everywhere & everyone comments on how good the idle sounds. Specs are: 294 / 306 adv. 250 / 256 @ .050 519 524 Lift (planned on sprayin once I find a sixpack kit) 110 LSA 2800-6800 RPM 3200+ Stall, sixpack intake, headers & 4:10 gears
