I can't afford a coating so I'm looking for advice on header paint and it's application. What works and how should I prep the headers?

Thanks
Butch

it all stinks and smokes when you first fire it up and then whatever stays on is good to go for a season--just make sure all oil etc is off--clean em good--it will spray right over any minor rust and turn out OK--blasting beforehand defeats the cheapo part IMO--and the stuff still is just so so
I plan on doing a set of dragster headers next week--coating just too high for cheapo headers--ok for high $$ headers IMO

Someone was jst telling me about a header primer that works really good before you put the paint on.

His headers still look like the day he painted them, and have many street miles on them.

I've had both, and being that I'm anti PC...I'm happy as a clam with my VHT painted headers.

But I live in the desert, we pay extra for rust here.

i used tech line from eastwood. best results would be to cook them in a oven first. did my own in a oven i modified. they look good & it holds up good.

For whatever reason, I have found that this paint on headers is bullet proof...if you heat the pipe just before you spray it on.

I always use Krylon BBQ & Stove paint. I painted my headers last winter and they still look great after 2000 miles and almost a year. Preparation is the key though

Butch I might have some of that Eastwood bright silver header paint left if you want to use it. Best stuff I ever used, I thought you had some.

Another vote for VHT...

I think it'll be hard to outdo a ceramic heat-paint in a rattle-can...

That's what I used Bob but I think the header preperation wasn't the best.

tech line coating from eastwood works great. prep & baking is the key. at 26 bucks a can(2 cans will do any size header) not real expensive.
