These things used to be available from ATI and other companies. I walked all over the PRI show asking about this. Could not find anyone who still offers this.

I know there are were some out there.

This is why I want one. I have a car and engine combo that needs 6,500 - 8,000 stall. Will not know until I race it some. I went with this type of engine to drive on the street. Well I think everyone knows what happens when you try to drive a 6,500 converter on the street. If I had lockup I could do some things to enjoy a high stall converter on the street and possibly take some advantage of it on the track.

Anyone have some of this stuff collecting dust somewhere?

How about someone who still makes this setup?

When I talked to T/A about one(a high stall lock up)
they said it has to have way more surface area to hold
the lock up so its a custom housing which is thicker
and in doing this you will need a spacer between the
engine and trans

Powerglide transmission with a turbo input spline.

Pbody, I will not have any issue with the space. I have an R5-small block adapter plate that is 3/4" thick. I am trying to get a Reid bell with the R5 pattern. Reid said they had another customer call for one last Monday before PRI. Even with that said I can run a thick mid plate.

i don't know if the setup is still available and it was BIG dollars but ATI and maybe transmission specialties were doing the lockup glide. at one time i think i remember seeing the lockup parts listed separately but now i only see the complete trans listed on ATIs website but you'll need a Brinks truck to go get it. i'm pretty sure Hemifred has one in one of his cars.

afaik the PG input has pretty much gone by the wayside and rightfully so, most stuff is turbo input.

make sure you're sitting down...

I didnt think you would have a problem with spacers
BUT with a 8" it might have to be fairly thick to
stack up enough clutch to live

yea now that i think about it i guess the whole 8" converter aspect is the limitation. i'm thinking most of the lockup stuff is geared towards larger higher HP converters. also as mentioned to increase clutch area they may use multiple plates making the converter deep. i believe most of the lockups that are/were offered are geared towards major HP

I don't think this converter is a good Idea for a motor with less than 1000 hp + just seen like lenco or liberty is the way to go just me

You could try Mike's Transmission..

BobR runs a glide in his Brad Anderson Procharged Hemi Mustang..

I know several people who ran an 8" lockup back in NMCA Hot Street. That would be late 90's as the links told.

The lockup deals ATI and Hughes are doing are made for huge horsepower. Those are large diameter low stall converters to begin with.

Like the links said people were doing this then NHRA outlawed them due to MPH records and ET record. Seems people were gaining .3 seconds with them.

Maybe Marty will have something up his sleeve.

I looked at the new Coan bolt together aluminum 8" converter. $4,800. For that you would think it would have a lockup in the front cover. At least it would be light and spin up fast.

I may look into running a tight converter and just dumping the fluid on launch. Sounds awful hard on the converter.

There are other tricks to getting a tight converter to stall higher. Some have experimented with variable stall by controlling the converter charge circuit.

For Glides I would think that this has been done. I know of some TH400 done this way.

I have had a Brute VR2 lock up and the ATI version that cost me 11K .I tried the VR2 with an 8" on my Duster. What I do know is if you do not make big power the lock up will dead out kill the motor's RPM when engaged.
I think the Variable control valve body from FB transmissions has a place for you

That will be a tough one. I want 7,000 stall when racing. But, want a lot less when on the street. The article says 600-1000 RPM adjustability.

This may be better than nothing

The lockup 8" was built and ran in Comp with great results. NHRA banned it due to the records it was breaking. They said it was due to transmission breakage but I know guys who used to have this stuff before going to a protrans.

wow Leon I'm keeping my glide with my R5P7, also using my old 8" converter with 6500 stall to see what happens.(worked for B1, I hope it works now)Then call Select Trans, if I need something to make it work better. Worst case I mite save my pennies to go with a Gerico trans, really wanna stay auto n do more street driving...
