Ok I am restoring a 68 gtx 440 4 speed car. It is a numbers matching car. When I purchased the car it came with a holley 4160. I was told it is correct for this car. However I have done some research and have contacted some people in the know. I have been told a carter 4428s is the correct carb by year one. 1 well known carb shop said it could be a holley 4160, and another shop said it could be either carter or holley(*&^%$^&). Does anyone know for sure without a doubt which carb I need??? Thanks Larry (what carb) Johnson

It should be a Carter AVS 4428. Being that it is a 4speed car, it should have the dashpot attached to the passenger rear. You can see it on this 383 4speed version. It should also have the stubby version of the throttle cable arm, being that there's no kickdown linkage on a 4-speed car.
