I think I'm gonna get some new rubber for the Swinger.
Wanted to know what's the best bang for the buck for 14" tire on standard steelie rims.
Don't need raised white letters, just a good reliable tire with some meat on them .

Stock rear suspension limits your choices as well as back spacing.
I ran a dart and I think 28x10 was as big as I could fit and that is not slicks.
I think they were only 9: because of the sidewall.

I've got 205/75/14's on mine... They ride fairly well. I haven't felt any rubbing while driving the car; however, there are signs of rubbing before hand (not sure if it's from this tire size).

The standard 14" A body wheel is only 4.5" wide. 185-70-14 is max for it. The performance 14" wheel is 5.5" wide, good for up to 215-70-14.
Tire selection in plentiful for 175 or 185 in 65,70,75 aspect ratios, not so much for 205 or 215 in 65,70,75.

Not sure how wide the rim is actually.
Guess when I have them take off the old tires I'll be able to tell and choose from there.
Think they are the stock wheels though.
Car is 340 , and HD suspension so not sure if the stock rim would be wider.

I've always been a fan of the 205/70/14. 205/75's look a little too tall to me but the 205/70 looks deceptively wide because of the lower aspect ratio.

It also helps that they're mere millimeters away from old school E70-14. Maybe that's why I like 'em. I had 205/75/14 on my old '71 Swinger - they looked great, but the rears rubbed the inner fenders on big bumps or when I had a lot of people in the car. Might have been the offset of the slot mags causing that, but that was too many years ago now.

Thanks Rambler that helps.
I think it's got 205/75s on it now, but they are bias-ply.
They do look a little tall.
Maybe I'll go for the 205/70s .

We use 14's up front and 15's in the rear on my sons Dart. I think the front are 205/70-14 tires as I know them back tires in this pic are 245/60-15's. Ron

A tire store can set their gauge in there right in the parking lot & tell you the width right now to help your selection, that way you can make a more informed decision/have the right tires in hand before you get it up on blocks, less down time

Here's a good shot of the tires on my V8 Hornet. These are 205/70/14. I've had multiple people ask me how I fit such a wide tire on and they've all been surprised to see it's only a 205.
