For years I have used the metal shim gasket #3614824 and that was .016" thick. I was told they were plain steel? Then I have used the 4286754 that is .020" and have been told they are made of stainless or some combination. There is a gasket #5155237 that says it is a metal shim gasket, .020, but with a cost of $160.00. The other two were $20 something. What is different between the $20 gasket and the $160 gasket??? Thanks ahead, Jim

IMO, the profit margin.

I saw that, too, and thought there was something screwed up. A standard steel-shim (not MLS) head gasket is typically about .020" compressed and sells for under $30 a set.

If you have to ask.....
The steel shim gasket is a single piece of embossed steel that was standard equipment on our favorite Mopar V8s. Use and throw away.

A $160 Multi Layer Steel (MLS) gasket is much higher tech and can be reused. Why they cost so much I don't know but try pricing out a set of dead soft copper head gaskets for comparison.

The original supplier for the MP gasket stopped making them , MP changed suppliers and the gasket went up to that crazy price , there is now a new SS steel shim gasket with a realistic price , or you can get the Mr. Gasket steel shim gasket .

I didn't know that the 3614824 was that thin , there is a set on ebarf ...

Over the years Mopar made two different versions of the beaded steel head gaskests, the 383, 361, 413 and 426 W gasket that was made for the 4.250 bore sizes, it was usually right at .022 thick, when the 440s came out Mopar change the gasket bore size, and thickness, to .017, why I don't know By the Mr Gaskets beaded steel gaskets as already suggested

Mr.Cab Racing and winning with Mopars since 1964. (Old F--t, Huh)
