I know this subject has been debated before about MUFFLERS..

what I'm looking for are Mufflers that are loud, to a point, and have the least amount of back pressure...must sound deep and mellow not like Flowmasters do..

inlet and outlets are to be 3 1/2" diameter...the engine is a pump 499...should make between 700-750hp...

any thoughts or what you are using???...

thanks guys...this is for my 63 Dodge project....

borla xr1. their pricey thou, about 170ea. on the cheap i'm looking at the hooker max flow. studies i'v seen show no flow loss. very simular to borla xr1,but about 70ea. the hooker areo chambers are good to,but do have the deep tone like a flowmaster, but without the tinny sound.
extreme muffler is another muffler simular to the borla, but 100ea.
i had the borlas and they cost no hp at the track. i now need some 3 1/2 so i'm getting the max flows.

Just put some 3 1/2'' Magnaflow race mufflers on mine and I love 'em.

Great link. Hooker Max Flows for the win I think.
I am right about at the buy the mufflers point so this post was perfect in it's timing.

I really don't think you can go wrong as long as you get a straight-thru muffler. It really boils down to tone preference and noise level. I went with the Magnaflows because I was building a full stainless exhaust and I found a deal thru Amazon for $98/muffler. I will say the tone is deep and they sound clean.

I put Spin-Tech 3 1/2" on my Challenger 496". Kid's got them on his 451 as well. He has a bad drone about 2600 RPM and mine are just plain LOUD!!!
I'd be leaning towards the Magna-Flows....

From what I've read in David Vizard's books...Straight through mufflers essentially add to the collector length. I have 3.5" Dynomax ultra flows on right now, but also have a pair of Aerochambers that came with the headers. I wanted to do a back to back at the strip but never had a chance. Vizard likes the Aerochambers.

I have the XR-1's on my scamp, and I love them!

Here is a soundclip of them on my scamp from last year's engine with 8.5:1 compression...They are definitely a loud muffler, and they are supposed to perform well too...never tried taking the mufflers off because this is a street car, but have seen others do tests and claim no gain taking them off. The construction of them is also really nice, think I paid like $120 each but definitely worth it- have drove the thing through rain many times, and no issues with rust or anything in the 3 years I have had them

Car sounds deeper in person, but you get the idea. Want to change over to bullet's next year as I like it LOUD, but am worried about the cops hassling me lol

thats my

I like and use the Magnaflow 14x7x3 straight through ovals, mine are mounted at the rear bumper behind the rear end tuck up between the stock frame rails and the outer fenders My car only picked up .04 ET(four hundreds and 1/10 MPH) by removing the complete exhuast sytem in the 1/8 mile, not worth doing in my opinion. many people have commented on how nice the car sounds during a run, it is very mellow sounding in the car at part throttle, a lot louder at WOT

drove from washington to connecticut with a pair of 3.5 hooker aero chambers behind a mild 440.they cruised pretty quiet but were loud when i wanted them to be.cheap too,id use them again but if you can stand a bullet type muffler i think there is a weight savings over a welded box style.my 3.5 were heavy!
