I know 70 4spd darts got the boxes on the rear and I think, the "wings" up front

Restoring a car to look "only" as good as the factory made it is like getting a boob job for your wife and having the doctor make them two different sizes to seem more natural

Based on viewing allot of original cars I have come to the conclusion that all 67-72 A-body 340 and big block cars were supposed to recieved all 4 of them. However, it is fairly common to find original cars lacking either the fronts or the rears, or even all 4, there seems to be no real ryme or reason to it. This pic shows a front TB on an A-body

All of my a-bodies have them, but they also have something else in common, they are roofless (one 340 car and two 273 two barrel cars).

I should also add that I've seen several 318 cars and one /6 car that had them as well, also no ryme or reason except that most of the 318 cars were manual trans cars.

I have a #'s 70 Duster 340 Auto that doesn't have any torque boxes.

It's hit and miss.

My 340 4 speed 70 Swinger has TB's front and rear.

I have noticed that manual trans 340 cars RARELY lack them.

My '69 GTS 340 4 spd has all of them but my '71 Duster 340 auto doesn't have any.

My observations over the last 30 plus years of working with A-Bodies has shown that over 90% of the 4-speed hardtops have rear torque boxes and very few have front boxes. My 383 4-speed has both. ALL convertibles have both. Very few performance automatic hardtops have rears, and I have never seen fronts on any of them. Of course, we are dealing with Chrysler, so anything is possible!

My 383 4 speed GTS had both, my 318 GT rag has both, and my 70 340 3 speed stick Swinger has both. Yet, oddly, a friend's 69 340 4 speed Swinger has none, and he's known the car since the mid 70s.

Is your '71 Duster 340 a 4 spd or auto? My '71 Duster 340 is an auto with A/C and has none.

(In his best Doug McKenzie voice) Like, take off, eh?

The 70 is Canadian through and through, born in Windsor, but the others have dual citizenship, all born in Hamtramck.
