The trans in my 2002 Ram 1500 w/360 auto has been acting up lately and flashed code P1762 and would ramdonly lose first gear. Aside from regular fluid flushes the trans is all orignal with 295k on it . My son replaced the govener sensor and transducer as suggested here on Moparts and now it has no overdrive and flashes code P0748 immediately on start up... even after clearing the code... and/or disconnecting the battery. I didn't see the work get done so only going off my sons words and he says everything looked good, with a clean screen, nice red fluid, no parts or pieces in the pan, wiring/connectors looked good and snapped tightly onto the newly installed parts. Any suggestions on where/what to look for? Thanks for any and all help

This is a cut & paste so the all caps isn't me...

P0748-PRESSURE SOL CONTROL/TRANS RELAY CIRCUITS
When Monitored: Continuously with the key on.
Set Condition: This code will set if the voltage detected on the Governor Pressure
Solenoid Control circuit at the PCM is different than the expected voltage.
POSSIBLE CAUSES
P1765 DTC PRESENT
INTERMITTENT GOVERNOR PRESSURE SOLENOID
TRANSMISSION RELAY OUTPUT
FUSED B+ CIRCUIT OPEN
GOVERNOR PRESSURE SOLENOID CONTROL CIRCUIT OPEN
GOVERNOR PRESSURE SOLENOID CONTROL CIRCUIT OPEN INTERNAL
TRANSMISSION CONTROL RELAY OUTPUT CIRCUIT OPEN
GOVERNOR PRESSURE SOLENOID CONTROL CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND
GOVERNOR PRESSURE SOLENOID CONTROL CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND INTERNAL
TRANSMISSION RELAY OUTPUT CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND
GOVERNOR PRESSURE SOLENOID CONTROL CIRCUIT SHORT TO VOLTAGE
GOVERNOR PRESSURE SOLENOID CONTROL CIRCUIT SHORT TO SOLENOID CIRCUITS INTERNAL
GOVERNOR PRESSURE SOLENOID CONTROL CIRCUIT SHORT TO OTHER CIRCUITS
GOVERNOR PRESSURE SOLENOID CONTROL CIRCUIT SHORT TO OTHER CIRCUITS INTERNAL
TRANSMISSION CONTROL RELAY - POOR CONTACTS
PCM - GOVERNOR PRESSURE SOLENOID CONTROL CIRCUIT

One way or another there is a hard fault in the Electronic Pressure Regulator circuit... Could be a shorted solenoid, an open solenoid, a wiring issue or a PCM problem.. Disconnect the battery & the PCM.. Find out which pin from the PCM is the EPC signal, ohm it to ground, (should be open) If not something is shorted to ground... Also ohm it to power (should be a reading that represents the resistance of the solenoid) if it's open the solenoid may be open but I'd be checking if the solenoid is plugged in... Wouldn't be the first time someone unplugged a solenoid to move a wire out of the way & didn't plug it back in before bolting the pan on...

Thanks for the tips Wild RT. Looks like I'll be pullong the pan to have a peek around in there, check connections, then start trouble shooting. I'll let you know what I find.

The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) is setting trouble code P0748. Transmission starts out in 3rd gear.
Average Reported Mileage:
119801
Tests/Procedures:
1. Test the resistance of the governor pressure solenoid, normal is 3-4 ohms.

2. Check to see if the solenoid is losing the power supply to it just before the code sets. If so, swap the transmission relay and verify the wiring to it.

3. Check the signal on a scope to see if the circuit is staying grounded all the time. If so, check the wiring to the PCM and for a possible bad PCM.

Transmission shifting problems. It sets a trouble code right after the engine is started. The MIL is on and code P0748 is stored.
Average Reported Mileage:
152015
Tests/Procedures:
1. Remove the transmission relay.

2. Jumper terminal 30 to 87.

3. Check the voltage on the Violet/White wire at pin 8 in the White Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector.

4. If there is no voltage, remove the jumper from the transmission relay connector.

5. Unplug the 8-pin transmission connector.

6. Check the resistance between pins 1 and 5 on the transmission. It should be about 3-5 ohms.

7. If not, the transmission pan will have to be removed to check the governor pressure solenoid and the wiring inside the transmission.
Tech Tips:
The governor pressure solenoid is also called the variable force solenoid in the service manual.

When Monitored and Set Condition:
P1762-GOV PRESS SEN OFFSET VOLTS TOO LO OR HIGH
When Monitored: Continuously with the key on and the engine running.
Set Condition: This code will set if the governor pressure is out of range in park or neutral
for 1.3 seconds for three consecutive bad 3.0 second tests and sump temp > 10°C (50°F) and
< 127°C (260°F) are required to set the code.
POSSIBLE CAUSES
CHECK FOR OTHER TRANSMISSION DTC’S
POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE
INTERMITTENT CONDITION
GOVERNOR PRESSURE SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORT TO VOLTAGE
5-VOLT SUPPLY CIRCUIT SHORT TO SENSOR GROUND
INTERNAL TRANSMISSION PROBLEM
5-VOLT SUPPLY CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND
GOVERNOR PRESSURE SENSOR - BELOW 3 PSI
GOVERNOR PRESSURE SENSOR
TEST ACTION APPLICABILITY
1 Turn the ignition on.
With the DRBIIIt, read PCM DTCs.
Is the Good Trip counter for P1762 equal to 0?
All
Yes ! Go To 2
No ! Go To 11
2 Turn the ignition on.
With the DRBIIIt, read PCM DTCs.
Are there any other transmission DTCs present?
All
Yes ! Repair all other transmission DTCs before proceeding. If a
Park/Neutral DTC is present make sure to perform the diagnostics for that first.
Perform TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST VER - 1.
No ! Go To 3

p1762--
Transmission does not shift correctly. Trouble code P1762.
Average Reported Mileage:
100498
Tests/Procedures:
1. Check the voltage of the governor pressure sensor with the Key On Engine Off (KOEO). It should be about 0.5 volts.

2. If higher than 0.8 volts, check the transmission temperature sensor reading.

3. If it is not accurate, check the sensor ground to the governor pressure/transmission temperature sensor.

4. If the transmission temperature sensor is reading correctly, replace the governor pressure sensor.

p1762

Check engine light is on, code P1762 - Governor Pressure Sensor Offset Volts Too Low or High - is set.
Average Reported Mileage:
85717
Tests/Procedures:
1. Test the voltage on the governor pressure sensor using a scan tool. Normal value is about 0.5 volts at key on engine off.

2. Monitor the voltage on the sensor as the vehicle speed is increased. The voltage should increase. At 20 MPH the voltage should be approximately 1.2 volts. At 40 MPH the value should be approximately 2.25 volts. At 60 MPH the voltage should be approximately 3.0 volts.

3. Verify the operation of the Oxygen (O2) sensors. A downstream O2 sensor fault or wiring fault may cause this code to set.

Update. Got it fixed last night! Dropped the pan and 1 Wild RT nailed it... the solinoid wire wasn't connected . Plugged in the wire, adjusted the bands since the pan was off and now it runs/shifts great! Yep, 296,000 miles and still going strong . Thanks to all for the replies and suggestions .
