Ok I posted a while ago that my Hemi road runner refused to see the high side of 4grand. Today I got 6K plus before backing out! Here What I Did: Installed a new pertronics igniter in the Prestolite. the old one was 7 years old. They claim they don't have a igniter 2 for the presto.
Installed There flame thrower coil, removing the factory mopar scripe one.
Repaired the broken dist ground wire on the breaker plate.
Made a bypass wire for the ballast resistor.
I tried it with the resistor and it started breaking up at 55K but was fine with the bypass wire.
My question is "and I know this has been asked before" will it be ok to run the bypass. ? the instructions with the coil say res. not required. The full 12 volts really makes a difference! I took the ballast resistor apart the connectors are hardly crimped on. No wonder nothing was getting through.My thinking is without points,and the pertronics coil I can rid myself the the resistor? what do you guys say?

i took apart my factory resistor [very easy] soldered a nice thick wire betwen the connectors and reassembled it looks 100% stock and works great with the pertronix! dan

Thanks Dan I did the same today. I couldn't believe how crappy that repro thing was put together, How long has yours been that way? I just hope there are no long term problems

Mine runs an MP electronic system and an MSD 6, bypassed resistor, been that way since 1984 and no problems. Pulls to 7500 clean as can be, idles around 800 or so (fairly stout cam). Once my "Guru" did the jetting and set up the carbs, it runs cleanly, too.

Doesnt the resistor just limit the juice throught the points? If you are running a pertronics, it can probably take full 12V unless told so by the instructions. MSD will take it all day.

The ballast resistor is there to protect the stock coil. If your replacement coil doesn't need it, get rid of it.
