How far out do you guys space out your bumpers? At first I had them tucked in tight but then moved them out some and they looked better.

Thing is the truck didn't have a bumper pan from the factory.

Will post pictures later tonight.

As far as I'm concerned, a bumper (front or rear) should be the first thing that makes contact with anything on the end of a vehicle. For a bumper to function correctly (actually protect anything) it needs to be 2-3" beyond anything else on the car, and substantial enough to actually take a light impact.

These sheet metal roll pans everyone thinks are so cool no longer make much sense to me. The 1st rod I built had a rear sheet metal roll pan. Someone shoved a shopping cart into the back of the car and put a huge dent right beside of one on the taillights, if it would have been in line with the light, that very hard lens to locate would have been toast. Straightening the sheet metal was enough of a pita, in the next configuration, and everything since there have been a real front and rear bumpers. Gene

That's why I have left my ugly original painted black bumpers on my 37 till I can afford to do something more creative. What ever I do it will still have some sort of functional bumpers. I guess the in tight bumpers or just roll pans are nice for cars that are not driven much but I drive the tires off mine so even if people don't like the look I am going to have functional ones on the car.
