my son has a 2001 dak sport,v-6, trans?? it has the 904 shaped pan is about all I know about them.

it started acting up last yr when shifting, had the trans flushed by local mechanic. no real change. so we parked it for a spell, run it up to temp to night and same thing as always, acting up on shifting.

we droped the pan tonight and pan looks clean, fliter is not all that dirty, magnet in the pan had some black sluge build up,no metal shavings or other crap you can find in them.

symptems are... it takes off in 1st,you have to get it up around 3500rpm and it shifts, if ground speed is above 30mph it will shift to 2nd,3rd,OD,TC locks up and goes fine. does not seem to slip any.

if you get up around 3500rpm and ground speed is below 30mph it shifts but flares up if you stay on the throttle, if you let off the throttle it is still in 1st gear as the ground speed is still under 30 mph.

(IMO,flares up like no 2nd gear or kickdown when the band slips on an older 904)

so with pan off we see maybe what are 2 noids with wires by the servos, wires run across to other side of VB to something, all kinds of thing on the outside with plugs and wires. NSS,speedo senser??

now we need some skooling on what we are looking at,how to troubleshoot it,how it works, how it is fixed.

pulled on the band levers and the band adjustments on both front/rear bands seem nice and tight, maybe 5/16"+ or so movement when pulling on them. never felt like it sliped any only shift hang up/flare up.

my son read something about a govner shift noid?? does it have a noid for TC-lock up?? one for shifting??

TIA for any help/info/skooling on this. with it being a long post with bad grammar and sentence structure.. plez forgive my Ignorance.

That would be an A500 trans. Sounds like the govener pressure soleniod is bad. At my work we always change the transducer at the same time we change the govener pressure soleniod. If you had a scanner you could watch the desired govener psi and the act governer pressure values. They should read the same amount untill you hit 47 mph. When they dont you will see the act pressure will vary and the truck will not shift or be irratiac shifting. Also check to make sure the TV cable moves free and isnt getting stuck or binding because that will also cause it not to shift correctly.

picked up the gov pressure noid and a transducer for it along with a new filter. changed right out and was very simple. found them on the shelf at the local mopar dealer. little pricy but worth it when it fixed it.

it was just as you described it. the shield held both of them as 1 clip.

filled it up with atf +4 and test drove, works great and shifts just like it should. been driving it all after noon today and works flawless so far.

I can not thank you enuff challengermike.

thats saved us a lot of hassle and $$.

Thank You!
