That was a good question because even though some markings were the same, most inspection markings varied from one car to the next even on the same application.

1970 GTX V-code. I can find three yellow numbers. First one is unclear, second one maybe 7 and last one maybe 6?

Yours was likely stamped 676 but in yellow paint as opposed to blue (since if you found some numbers remaining in the original yellow paint?). Here's a 69 b-body 18 Spline box with original markings, the tail shaft had been swapped to an A-body piece.

numbers should be 676-don`t know if they were yellow or blue-sometimes other colors too so try to determine what they were. the pic i posted was done recently for a numbers 383 4 speed challenger l/a plant.
all the best
frank.

BTW, if adding back the various paint daubs keep in mind that the transmissions were sitting with the input shafts pointed towards the ground and the paint drips ran towards the front of the car. Also, the shade or paint did not fade much if any being under the car most of it's life, try to match any color you find as closely as possible. That green on mine was a true pale/mint green, not a faded version of something else, the yellow "605" is a darker yellow, not bright yellow, etc. The paint was usually a bit thin and was usually a bit transparent once applied, most were applied in rapid fashion and were not perfect and solid like many stamps you see that are added back. Also, the transmission cases were bare cast iron, not painted cast iron gray. If you have your case perfectly clean you can add back the markings and preserve it from rusting while retaining a perfectly original bare cast finish by treating the bare iron with RPM. It works EXTREMELY well at preventing rust from returning.

No, I have not seen it earlier. Thanks!

This seems to be really tricky. I would say "Mission Impossible" to get everything right. Especially if you are living in the middle of nowhere.

I surrender
