Just wondering what type of front seats people went with in their street rod? Temporarily I have buckets from an Isuzu Pup in mine. Not very comfortable and just wondering what some of you went with for front seating/

I installed buckets from a 1995 Pontiac Bonneville in mine. Extremely comfortable seats, and they look good in the car too.

1990s Taurus SHO or other ford product buckets are pretty good and should be findable.

Depends on the year your rod is, with cars before 37, the front seat area is very narrow. You need a set of buckets that are narrow, and the seats will still touch each other and also touch the door panels. My 35 Dodge sedan had a set of buckets out of an 80s Tempo, they were comfortable and worked well.

When you get to 37 or newer, the width increases and seating options get bigger. My 48 Plymouth coupe has a bench seat out of a Dakota.

Seating in trucks tend to need to be more upright and have short backs. The worst seats I ever put in my 54 Dodge pickup were buckets from a mid 80s 5Th Ave! The seats themselves were great, but the backs laid back too much and were too high to fit under the rear window sill. My knees were almost in the dash, a very uncomfortable ride if longer then a 1/2 hour or so. I replaced those with a set of low back buckets from a swap meet. After removing the head rest, the seat backs fit under the rear window sill and could be slid back, giving me a few inches before my knees would have been against the dash, much better. My 50 got a set of short back buckets from a front drive Mopar (I think they were from an E Class car) with the adjustable backrest. Then I added an ammo box between the seats for storage. With the 48 & newer Dodge trucks, the width of the seat is generally not an issue, the angle of the back rest and the height of the seat back are issues. Buy accordingly. Gene

What poorboy said is true and it also depends on the appearance or style you're after.

For my 37 pickup, I wanted something that appeared as stock as possible and, I didn't want to spend a small fortune getting it. I bought a bench seat frame from the wrecking yard that I removed from a Mazda B2200 pickup ($15). I liked it because had a nice tube steel structure and was close to being usable as it was. Then because of the narrow width and taper of my cab, I cut the seat width and narrowed it, followed by "pinching" it to get the same taper as my cab. It worked out very well and looks great.

Using front seats from '99-'02 Tahoe/Escalade/Suburban. They have the seat belts built in. Also late 90's Trailblazer.

I used power seats from a grand cherokee and a console from a durango. They were cheap junkyard finds. The power seats makes getting the right angles easy.

looking for a set of buckets,,not sure if i want a head rest or not for my 40 coupe,,i hate the bucket seat look when they touch each other may as well put a bench seat in it,,,my factory seat isnt to comfortable on longer rides,,,

im thinking late 80s mustang or early 90s T BIRD lots of after market for factory seat covers and color choices,,and they seem to measure perfectly to fit my 40 coupe and have some sort of narrow console

A 40 should have plenty of room to put a nice set of bucket seats into, its the mid 30s and earlier that is too narrow. Gene

Narrowed the bench from a 79 Newport for my 38 Plymouth, took about 4" out.

They say there is always the exception that proves the rule.
Don't be the exception.

another popular seat is the 60,s T-bird buckets (lowback) with the curved love seat rear---one of my friends put a set in his 35 ford slant back--the rear seat is in 2 sections allowing you to narrow them down to fit....bob

i am using a thirdrow seat from a 1999 chrysler town&country minivan in our 41 willys.that is the only year with the fold down center armrest.will mount two cupholders in the back of that and when it is flipped up you won`t see them.cut the rollers off and bolted alum angle to it to mount to the floor.still adjustable for diff drivers and seatback flips forward for access to behind seat area.paid 50 bucks at salvage yard.

I was intent on trying a bench seat in my 40. I like the looks of a bench, but I have two extremely comfortable Sebring bucket seats in my motorhom that I will eventually part out, and when measuring... it looks like they are just the right size to LOOK like a bench seat but be more of a "split bench" so each side is adjustable.
I'm not sure what to do to be honest.
I've got the car in a shop that should be usable in another month at most so I'm gearing up to start doing SOMETHING. I hope anyways...

I would think any seats out of a Dakota will fit, and I hear the center bench seat from Mini vans work well if you don't need access to the area behind the seat. Full size trucks and full size vans are pretty wide, C body cars would be too wide as well. I'd be tempted to measure some 5th Ave seats, and most of the front drive Mopars will have seats that should fit. Take a tape measure and head for a pull-a-part. Long as the windows are intact and the doors have been closed, seats usually are OK for several months lounging around in yards. Gene

one seat i found was in a base trim level ramcharger---it was a low back-- split back bench seat in fabric---it was 1 inch narrower than a stock 64 plymouth seat---so i put it in my 64 and drove it for years---it had modern/firm foam/springs and it looked like it belonged....bob
