I have a 1963 Chrysler 300 Pace Setter with 21K miles. It is a beauty and a real time capsule of Chrysler history. It is all original including the paint, interior, conv. top...etc The battery and a few soft pieces have been changed.
The engine and steering box has a bit of rust on it. Enough to where I am considering pulling it, painting and detailing the engine bay....
QUESTION: Am i ruining the survivor status....WHat qualifies a car as a true survivor? TX

IMO you will detract from it's "Survivor" status if you paint ANYTHING on the car. The more factory production line original, the better, flaws and all, nothing is more beautiful than an untouched original car. There aren't many left with original engine bay details, ESPECIALLY of your cars vintage. There are too many so called "survivors" these days, far too many have repainted drive trains, undercarriages, even MOST of the bodies have been painted on some. Once you change something, that "thing" is no longer valuable as a reference for future restorer or historian who are looking for the most minute of details, far too many of which have vanished forever due to some past owners effort to make it "prettier"

A previous owner decided to paint the engine on my "survivor"....really wish they hadn't.

have you browsed a survivor tent?
those cars have better paint on the body then cars I see that have been restored.
Im not too thrilled with what is considered a "survivor car"!
isn't that the truth.

That engine bay looks GREAT! I would NOT change a thing.
I don't see much wrong except the battery, rad cap, alternator, and the plug wires, what NOS parts did you buy?
As far as parts go, keep in mind that NOS parts are not always the same as the production line parts. If you are replacing anything original be sure to save the old worn parts, they are worth their weight in gold for information on proper details.
Fixed and

I bought NOS new battery cables (the originals were replaced..ugh), plug wires, heater hoses (cracked), sparl plug wires (date coded), trans filter, motor mounts, radiator cap, point condensor, and the carb needed a rebuild. Otherwise I'm saving for the battery and the 300 hubcaps (if anyone has a set of these I can use them)...

too; add me to the list. before the pics, I envisioned a really crusty engine, but that looks great! probably as nice or nicer than the one in my 53,000 mile 'Cuda survivor.
I think painting it would be a shame.
