Yes, it was a running change. (I would expect to see the LH "hump" & the same big "hump" under the oil fill on a 3/71 car)
Different big-block engines (L,N,T,U,V), different transmissions, different plants would've all transitioned at different times/dates & there would be overlap because there was little, if any, inventory control.

that's what I was thinking too. I've seen both types on 71's

I also have the drivers side hump with an indented circle. It looks to be a place they wanted to punch out, but never did. Pics tomorrow.

Interesting topic. I just checked mine and i have the "bumps" on the left side, but only on the breather on the right. Is this an example of an early build for 71 or is the RH side an older cover?
