Headlight adjuster screws, '68 Dart (and probably everything else), are these 1/4-28 thread?

I think I am going to have to make some custom hardware. The mounting points on the AAR fenders are deeper and I don't think the standard adjuster screws are long enough to get the headlights into the grille opening where they need to be.

Thanks.

Go to your local parts house. Look in the "HELP" section. There are numerous different lengths and munting tabs. They are more like 1/8th"..

I am truckless..

Probably 12-28. There are a lot of different lengths of them out there.

Well, I can't find anything local (parts stores, big box hardware, places where I could get them are of course closed for the day) in the length I need 2-1/2 to 3". These are a 12-28, most of what I find is 1/4".

Probably going to order standard pan head machine screw in the length and then just use a #12 nylock to create the collar for the headlight basket to ride in.

Its a pretty specific shaped head so its going to be automotive only I bet.

Did you check with R/T specialties?

Are you in a hurry? I can check a possible source on mon or tues.

I've got ten years into this project... what is a few more days?

I looked on RT Specialties site, they have adjusters but appear to be stock replacement length.

If you can check that would be great but I did a lot of searching online yesterday and didn't come up with much.

That is why I ended up thinking I might just get standard 12-28 screws and some nuts. I'll look at it some more today.

Or you could just wait until next weekend and go to the nats to put your hands on the ones you really want

I don't think I am going to find what I need there either, Gus. I have a brand new set from R/T Specialties, but they are stock replacement.

The surface where the adjusters mount on the AAR fenders is an inch deeper than my stock fenders, so the stock hardware is not long enough.

1 - 3/4". Considering this, I need a 3" screw (since I am not sure 2.5" would have enough thread engagement into the mounting nut.

longest I could find was 2-1/8".

You can email and ask:
timmy@jandtautomotive.com

Not sure if they sell retail or ship but you can try calling:
J&T Automotive Inc.
203 Edison Street
Syracuse, NY 13204

315-422-1261

I used to deal with them in the 70's so they have been around awhile.
