I'm trying to find out what the pad stamping and casting numbers decode as. The pad is stamped on the lower left corner 69426 and the casting is 4006630-440-7. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds like a 73 , maybe 74 , or later block. they didn't put the cubic inch size in the casting number on big block till around that time.

Late model 440 block. The ID pad was milled down during a rebuild and re-stamped.

What is the casting date? How about the VIN?

As mentioned, later 70's engine. Those could be factory stampings like build sequence info, etc. tough to say for sure. They sometimes had some whacky stampings in the later 70's that didn't resemble the easier to decipher 1966 to early 70s versions (which are not well known basically due to lack of interest/research).

the 4 at the beginning of the casting # 4xxxxxx-440-7 says it is one of the so called "thin wall" castings starting across the board on all engines late in the ~75 model year (I had a 75 Cordoba with a SB (4) eng). See the archives for Andys thin wall write up for the whole story. I think the suffix (7) is when the sand casting molds got used up & needed changing they changed the # for each mold change starting with -1. I think I read once that the higher the # the more likely for their to be a casting flaw/core shift but I'm not positive on that & probably not a dealbreaker

RR, please put that old wives tale out of your mind. The dash number has NOTHING to do with whether or not the casting is any good. It does tell how many times the core has been rebuilt, but says nothing about core shift which is the major bugaboo on Chrysler cylinders.

R.
