I was trolling the net for a sending unit and the prices range from 45-110.00 What are thie differences? Who makes them all? Some sellers say original tooling, most say stainless steel, what works the best? I bought 2 repops about 6 years ago that were around 65.00 and they both read 1/4 low. I put my stock original back in and it was 1/8 off. I was thinking it might be the gauge. I got a new tank and was thinking maybe they have improved since then.

There are quite a few making them.I got the 3/8s stainless one for my 65 about 12 years ago.It was like 65 bucks. Its pretty accurate. Most seem to forget that the gauges werent super accurate back then.Rocky

UPDATE : After receiving a sending unit from www.carpartsdiscount.com for about 53.00 delivered I had my doubts about it. But after installation it worked just like it was suppose to. I got my tank from Stephens Perf. delivered for 165.00 (a friend picked it up for me, Thanks Terry!) and my tank straps from Amazon for 38.00 and now everything finally works like its suppose to after dealing with a relined tank that didn't vent properly and 3 sending units that didn't work right. And it only took me 11 years to get it right. I clear coated everything with 3 coats of Plasti- Kote. Pic looks smudged but it isn't. And for you detail guys the shocks are auto parts` store Dodge PU , the springs are from a vendor out of MI on e-bay who sells the 3" over stock leafs and i made the 1" lowering blocks to bring it back down, mufflers are Dyno Max Super Hemi Turbos

The original problem with the tank is that i didn't buy a new one when i restored the car, My radiator guy James said he could but a really durable lining in it (that cost 160.00) problem was the stock vent pipe holes were already small and when he put the liner in there it made them even smaller, despite the fact he blew them out with air. What happened on my 2007 roadtrip was I filled up at the base of the Rocky Mts. in Colorado and when got up to the Eisenhower Tunnel my engine vapor locked (Thank God before I got in the tunnel or I wouldn't be here)I was nervous and freaking out 1000 miles from home and within 4 minutes a tow truck pulled up and offered to tow me over the mountain, upon putting the car on the truck gas was leaking everywhere due to the fact the sender gasket blew out because the tank couldn't vent fast enough. I fixed it the next day in Utah. Anyway thats why I wanted to replace the tank. The gauge always read full on 3/4 . I replaced the straps because the old ones were stretched.Thats the story. So now it's fixed right and ready for another roadtrip.
My next upgrade I think will be an AlterKation to take care of the front drum brakes and sloppy steering......
