Anybody have a recommendation for the best tool for changing valve springs on a small block with shaft rockers with the motor still in the car?

Some see the glass as half empty, some see the glass as half full. I just drink straight out of the bottle.

This tool works awesome. I really like it because you dont have to hold the tool with one hand as you turn the allen head bolt to push the spring down. Then you can use both hands to remove and replace the spring. I bought it at Mancini and I believe it was $146. but worth every penny to me. Ron

Looks like a first class tool. The price is a bit of an ouchie, but I'm a firm believer in buying quality tools.

Matt, why don't you measure them first to see what kind of spring pressure you have? Moroso sells a nice in-car tool. Might find one cheap on Ebay or here in the tool section.

That one is nice but pricey if youonly use it a few times.I have 2 of the cheap ones that just clamp on the springs and you tighten the wheel on top and they compress the springs. It removes the retainer with the spring.Ive done a lot of cars with them. They are about 20 bucks.Great for stock type springs.I eve used it on my goofy poly heads on my 57.My kid bought the other one Summit and mancini sells. It clamps down where the shaft goes and has a handle that lets you press on the retainer.Works super and was about 50 bucks.Mancini has them and it will work on BB and SB.Even compresses some stout springs.Rocky

I am more then happy to lend it to you but it looks like you would have a long drive. Ron

This one works pretty well; better with two people (one pulling and the other removing the valve locks, especially when you have 800 lbs of pressure when open ). ProForm A little tight around the master cylinder, but not impossible. The only difference between the BB & SB version is the shaft length, so I just fabricated a new shaft for the BB. The one Ron has wasn't available when I bought mine.
