Developed a weird problem last night at the track. In reverse it acts like it's binding, or like it's still partially in 1st trying to go forward too. All forward gears and neutral are normal. First noticed something unloading the car at the track, but thought it was just because I was parked slightly down hill didn't give it a second thought. Then at home unloading it is really pronounced. Something is jacked with with reverse in my reverse manual valve bodied A-904.

Any ideas what it could be?

THANKS

Forward clutch plates are toast and not releasing when you shift into reverse.

Searching for reasons why I've burnt out my 2nd set of low clutches in 3 years.

If the drive shaft bottomed out on the launch when everything winds up, could that be putting pressure on the clutches and frying them? Not sure how much play I have as the tranny is already sitting on the garage floor, but will be putting it back in to check the spine depth.

Any other ideas?

No that wouldn't do it.

I dont think its the front clutches welded together. Reason is when in third gear the front and rear clutches are applied. So when you go into first the rear clutch and the overrunning clutch give you first. If the front clutches are welded you would be in third gear when you put it in drive and not first gear. Sounds like the rear clutches may have a problem to me since it is applied in all forward gears but not in reverse. Reverse is the forward clutch and the low-reverse band applied so if the rear clutch was partly welded together then you would have a two element fight like trying to be in first and reverse at the same time. "forward clutch" is brand-X terminology and is bound to cause confusion on a Mopar forum. Just as bad as "low clutches".

Yea dont why brand X cant get it right. I am just so used to calling the front clutch the forward clutch. Thanks for setting that straight. Ron

Sorry for my poor use of terminology. I'm a tranny novice.

Also forgot to post it's a reverse cheetah valve body.
