Should the grille on the 70 Roadrunner have grey or black fins? That is to say should the main part of the grille be black or grey?

Thanks Mike. I have seen the grey also. Is the grey for Satelites or?

The fins are BLACK (satin) and the border is argent SILVER w/texture for the Roadrunner. For the Satelite the colors are reversed...

Just my $0.02...

I respectfully disagree.....my original grille has dark textured argent for the center grille/fin area and a lighter textured argent silver around the perimter. Only black area is at the top where it attaches to the hood latch tray. My grille is basically the same as the one on the blue car shown above. The original style textured paints are the way to go if you plan to restore.

Glad we cleared THAT up.
I wonder if the grille treatment changed during the model run, or if the service parts were identical to the assembly-line parts.
FWIW my '70 Satellite grille was all silver!

I took the time to pull out a couple grilles I have had since the late 70's....one RR grille and one satellite grille. These have never been repaired/restored. First photo of both grilles.....RR grille on top.

I would like to see some supporting evidence of original un-restored grilles with black centers to support the idea there may have been other colors available.

Thanks for all the feedback. I'm not sure there is a concensis of the correct color. Maybe there were different suppliers or the supplier used different methods of finishing the grills thru the year? Or Chrysler used different finishes?

NO BLACK ON RR GRILLS,except on the inside top where the 3 big round plastic plugs go.Dark argent on the center fins and light argent on the outer. There is a supplier with a kit, totally auto. Its arough paint, textured and comes with 5 tips for each color, once you stop, change tips!!I have done 4 or 5 grills.

I don't profess to know the answers on this one (Superbee grills, maybe), but I'm thinking some of the confusion might be what you are calling "dark argent" appears black to me. Faded, low quality black may well = "dark argent". Age and weathering could be why Sinitro's NOS grill looks more black than yours?

Just a thought.

Road Runner had dark argent center, light argent outer edge. Satellite colors reversed. That's what I've seen, and ones painted black don't look right.

I agree with the majority of responses that say dark argent center and light argent outer with satin black along top where attach buttons go. Totally Auto has good stuff that can make a grill look pretty darn nice in my opinion. There is probably other options as well. I restored a '70 RR grill recently using their products (in rattle cans no less). Here is a shot of a bezel.

How are the headlight bezels painted? Light argent inside around the headlights- or all dark argent?

Please use 6bbl gt's photos and advise above. No black on a 70 RR grille can be seen with the hood closed, just on top where the 3 push on buttons are. Don't confuse the 70 GTX grill with the dark grille work and silver headlight rings with a RR, different paint scheme. Folks have been rattle canning grilles black for years, does not make it factory correct.

Here is an example of the black paint syndrome, not how they were.

2 questions...
What about the lower center section..

I had heard some folks were able to get a good match with Krylon Fuzion shimmer textured..?

The lower center grille on a '70 roadrunner is not textured. I paint the center grille area satin black and use Totally Auto's 'Grille Silver' for everything else.

I was referring to the ring around the headlight- the rest seems pretty clear to me- almost looks like there is a few "bars" of light argent under each light too? In the pics where bezel detail can be seen-
