New carpet going in... roll cage... what is the best way to work around the bars? Good sharp utility knife or is there a better way?
Thanks

Use a real carpet knife, they are double sided and twice as sharp as a ulitiy knife with isn't sharp enough for carpet. You can buy one for pennys from any hardware store. I have been using one since 1978 when I took "floor mechanics" when I was in hi school. I use it for tons of stuff because utility knifes are dull compared to a carpet blade. And carpet knife is shaped different and is much better. Did I mention I kicked carpet for a few years to make a living? Oh yea...real race cars don't have carpet.

Yep what they said, use a carpet knife. Also cutting for the back side makes a cleaner cut and is the way you really shoudl be doing it.

My trusty knife, had it since 1978. I don't fool with carpet much nowadays but I use my carpet knife all the time. The new one's are red, at least the second one I bought at home disappointment was for my tool box at work. I just used it to hang about 20 sheets of drywall recently. And like Al said, carpet should be cut from the back. Depending on what the carpet is made of, I have cut perfect circles in carpet with a heated up peice of round pipe, that melts right through the carpet and seals up the edges and keeps it from fraying. My And I have also sharpened the edges of the pipe on a grinder and used a hammer to cut perfect circles.

Oh yes razor blades are one of my best friends, buy them 100 at a time. But I don't use them on carpet. My wife has done uphostery also her whole life. Went to school for 2 years for it junior and senoir year of hi school. She has a chair that is getting done as we speak and I know she said she was gonna work on it all weekend.
