Trying to get a rebuild kit for my 1966 2bbl Carter BBD.

NAPA lists two of them.

1) Carter C-2,w/ Carburetor # 4125, 4126, 4127, 4128

2) Carter C-2,w/ Carburetor # 4123, 4124, 4463, 4947

The only problem is that I can't find any of those numbers on my carb.

All I've found is 1781 on the side of the bowl, 1984 on the side of the upper part (IIRC), and a 1936 on the bottom part. I think those might all be individual part numbers for each of the sections, and there's no tag on it.

So how does a guy figure out which carb kit is right?

Nope, not on the front of the mounting ears. I'm wondering what would be different between the two kits, or types of carburetors.

I see the #1 listings related to the big block 2bbl applications and the #2 listings seem to be related to the small block applications. Does this sound correct?

The BBD on my 67 was unmarked too. I had a heck of a time figuring out which one it was. I don't even remember how I came to the decision, but I ended up buying this kit from Mike's - it covers a wide range of years:

It should work fine for you too if this is for a small block.

Guessing this is for a 361 engine?
My OLD tattered Chiltons list 4125S,4126S,4127S,4128S and the only difference between them seems to be the choke settings, idle speed, etc. Though the float setting varies by 1/16", I think you would be in the ball park.

It's actually for a 318A engine, the "poly", but if those are the only differences, then no big deal.

Go to Secret Chimps link, look at the pic, that is the one you need, the bbd for a B motor is different, larger, has the same air cleaner throat size as an AFB.
I was guessing, and don't have a '66 parts book.

The small block has 1 1/4" blades. Big block has 1 1/2".

The kits I have bought at Advanced and Autozone fit many years of those old BBD's. Only way to ID one for sure is a tag.

When you break it down save the old gaskets as you may have 3 different ones for the same area.

Digital cameras is essential for the tear down.

I have gobs of different BBD's. The super six's are the easy ID's.

2 things are slop in the shaft especially on the passenger side. The other is the tops warp. The fuel bowl and the top plate on my rebuilds always take a ride on the fine grit stationary belt sander! (Vaseline in the holes to stop the dust getting in there.)

Let me know if I can help! I have gobs of pics.

Thanks guys, NAPA has a problem with their system and shows the big V8 kit picture on their site to be the same kit as the small V8, which is incorrect.

Going to the carburetor-parts site showed that the two kits are for different looking carburetors as you guys have said, with different air-cleaner neck diameters.

Are you SURE it's a BBD in 1966 and NOT a Stromberg that looks nearly identical? (For what it's worth, the Stomberg is light years better than the BBD in all counts! )

It says on the side that it's a Carter.

I thought the gas entered the side of the carburetor on the Stromburg instead of in the front like the Carter, but I could be wrong??

Thought I remembered having a '66 Charger 318 where the gas entered the side of the carburetor....

What year did the little BBD's go to the wire and stud on top?

And the PCV fitting?
