My 383 with 312 heads, TRW pop-ups, a Hughes .600" solid cam, tunnel ram with a pair of Holley 750 double pumpers, Torqueflyte, 4.56 gears, 1600 lbs. ran 9.50's like clockwork.

A friend had a 72 Chevelle with your basic 355 in it. Ran 11.70 best. Sold the car roller and stuck the engine in a 225" WB hard tail dragster and its been 9.40 I believe. only change being headers obviously.
You shouldn't have any issue getting a 9 second run out of it.

Shifted at 7200 running 8.70's on a stockish bottom end 383 - that's awesome! I doubt I'll zing mine that high - probably 6400 tops but you give me high hopes. I'm a bracket racer through and through so I just want something consistent that I can run the piss out of.
I still have the motor, I want to put a Reed solid roller I have in it, with a valvespring swap and a TM6 with a single 850 Holley, then stuff it in a straight axle Gremlin I have... BTW: We swapped this motor for a 471" B stroker with ported Eddy RPM heads and a mild solid-roller cam (274@.050", .645" lift) and only went 8.10s/170mph with the same carbs and intake. Now we have a M1 tunnel ram and 2 x 850 Holleys and it just runs in the 7s, needs more CAMSHAFT... The 3.38" stroke motors love to rev, so my advice is put a set of rods in it and zing it appropriately!!!
