Hey guys. Quick question. I already sand blasted the lid for my 440 sixpack to get the rest of the old paint off which was in bad condition. I bought the hemi orange spray paint at a local paint store that is original chrysler color. Should I sand it down and if so with what grit paper? Also, does it need to be primed before painting it? Air cleaner lids are a different color not engine orange.There are several places that sell the correct color. You should always primer bare metal.

On the directions of the spray can it says to use a scotch brite to scuff up the area to be painted. Then clean it with mild soap and water, dry and then put primer on first. So all of this makes sense.

So if not hemi orange, what shade of orange is it? Also, has anyone ever tried it with hemi orange? It's such a cool color and my superbee is orange with a black sixpack hood of course.

i think the 69 year is the only year that used the hemi orange that you can't just walk into a parts store and get. there is 'street' and 'race' hemi orange. one is really orange and the other has more of a redish hue to it.
