One of the guys I work with has a 70 Challenger R/T. He says it's a 440/6pack car. Can you guys decode the fender tag for him?

Two-tone paint too, do you have any photos of it?

I can get some. It's apart right now and was modified to race. The owner is putting it back to original if he can. It was repainted blue and then pink with wild graphics and had a hemi in it when he got it. The entire interior was done in pink vinyl also. I would say the car was kept inside most of it's life as the sheet metal is awesome. Who ever raced it radiused the rear wheel wells for huge slicks. It's getting new AMD quarters and wheel houses to correct this issue.My friend bought the car in 2000 at the Nats in Columbus. He bought the car, the trailer it was on and the red 4wd dualie Dodge hooked to the trailer.

OK, the last two I don't have figured out...TX9 and H6X9. Alaskan T/A, if I sent you the VIN do you think you might have any paperwork for this car?

TX9 in that position is black painted top.

H6X9 - Interior code, it breaks down like this;
H - High trim grade.
6 - Vinyl bucket seats.
X9- Interior color, black.

I can look, but I do need the VIN to check.

Nothing on it yet, sorry.

It is the first two-tone 440-6 1970 Challenger have heard of though.

Has he searched it for broadcast sheets yet?

Yes. The car is disassembled down to a shell and no build sheet.

Wouldn't it be better to just repair the wheelhouses and openings instead of replacing the entire quarters?

No not really. The AMD sheet metal fits so nice. There won't be any filler except around the edges where it gets welded.

I'm wondering---was the two tone (Black top paint) a cheaper option than vinyl top or not???? Somebody know?

Yes less than 1/2 the cost. Vinyl was around 85, painted top was in the low 30 range

I don't know. I'm wondering if it was special ordered like that. I told the owner about the painted roof today. He was really surprised. He said that he had been pricing a vinyl top for it because it had the moulding holes. He said it will get paint now just like when it was born. We'll be headed to Monster Mopar in June and he will be looking for a six pack setup. He said he can't remember where he put the 4 spd console though. It might be in this shed or the other barn or maybe over at his dads place

Interesting, so it was a way to get the look (sorta) while saving a few 1970 dollars.

Just to make sure, has he looked inside both of the bucket seat backs for broadcast sheets?

Prices for 1970 Challengers;

Two tone paint - $31.70

Vinyl top - $83.95

I sold a complete 70 six pack set-up with complete linkage and air cleaner at Carlilse a few years back for $2400, what are they worth now?

It has the moulding holes because it has the vinyl top mouldings to cover where the paint line is from the 2 different colors .

What, are you a moderator again?!? It is much easier to ask in an ongoing thread than to create another...
