Ok planing on building a 440 for my cuda and using after market alum heads 440-1 or Mopar Stage VI or along those lines... has anyone ever done this with a Shaker Hood set up e.g. Hood, Bubble like you can get from Harms or sixpackperformance.net??? If so what combo did you use? The Shaker set up is really what I want so if it cant be done, I need to change my engine plans. I did utilize the search feature on this site before I asked the question and came up with no results on this topic, if this issue has been addressed in the past please forgive me and thank you for your time.

I am installing a low deck with stage 6 heads and an indy 440-1 intake. I will go with a fiberglass shaker hood to replace my ralley hood, they are available at a place in Ontario. Not sure if I will use the base plate or secure the shaker to an air cleaner or go with feet of some sort attached to the intake. I do want it to look as stock as possible( no hack job?)

I will be using an RB Block and am leaning towards Stage VI with the 440-1 intake as well. I too want this set up to be stock looking. I just have never seen this done and want to know if I need to select another set of hi-perf alum heads to accomplish this? I want to use factory repo parts eg. metal hood, bubble ect. As far as the shaker goes.

You will have to modify the baseplate if you use anything other than a head with a std port location and a stock height intake. the 440-1 intake is very tall , I really doubt anything is going to even fit under a stock shaker bubble and not restrict airflow into the carb .
This might be better asked in the RACE SECTION

John thanks, you made a good point about the intake height, I went back and looked and my intent was to use the Indy dual plane intake not the -1. Thank you for your help.
Don
I had the Indy dual plane its as tall, or I think even taller, than a performer RPM which is a couple inches taller than a stock intake.

What john says is right. The dual plane is tall too. I would simply figure you will need ot modify things, and more than likely it will require cutting and welding to get the right fit.
Well, art is art, isn't it? Still, on the other hand, water is water! And east is east and west is west and if you take cranberries and stew them like applesauce they taste much more like prunes than rhubarb does. Now, uh... Now you tell me what you know.

I just did this on my Cuda. 440, Holley SD intake, 1 3/8 spacer, and Dominator. Had to use a drop base air cleaner base in the Shaker base and had to fab up a raised center in the lid but it all fits.
Master, again and still

Here is a picture of what I did 5 yrs ago to rememdy using an airgap intake on a smallblock. Modify the base plate to receive a drop base, I used an edelbrock in this case.

Mike,
Looks good! Thank you for posting. Do you think that would get the same affect with set up Im looking at doing or do I need to look at something completly different like, another style of head/intake for a 440?

Don heres a real dumb question ...
What is more IMPORTANT to YOU , the shaker hood or the engine build ?
What was posted above is the way you would want to go about it but you have to remember that a 440 sits taller that a 340 , another good picture would be a front shot of the shaker with the air filter and lid installed inside it .

You will definitely want to know this measurement with a 440, then measure fron carb throat on baseplate to gills to see if you will be too high for the shaker bubble to fit thru the hood.

And lastly, if you have to bring the outer baseplate down towards the engine, you might interfere with the valve covers. As they say..."measure twice cut once".
I only have experience with the small block application at this time.
