I'm replacing my stock valve covers with the black wrinkle aluminum covers I bought used on Craigslist. The PVC valve holes are not punched and I don't want to punch them if I don't have to. They came with some grommets and caps. Can I eliminated the PVC valve and cap the big vacumn port on my carb? Will I need to adjust my Eddie 1406 carb? The stock breather will not work... can I eliminate that? Is there a PVC/breather combo avaliable for the Mopar Performance valve covers? Please advise, Thanks

It needs a breather at very minimum. pcv is nice to have and works well with a breather.

Definately need breather in one cover and PCV in the other or you will end up with oil film all over the engine. With neither you will be blowing oil out of every seal in the engine. Running the PCV wil not make any difference in the way the engine runs so why not do it right.

The crankcase NEEDS to be ventilated somehow. Positive ventilation actually helps the piston rings seal in the cylinders. I've seen racers put one way check valves in the headers plumbed to the valve covers. This will pull the rings toward the cylinder walls to make a more effective "seal".

I agree with the first part, but not exactly the second part.

A PCV system is a controlled vacuumleak and a motor will idle slightly higher because of that. Just squeeze the PCV-hose on a running engine and listen the RPM drop a bit.
Also, especially on older engines, the PCV system draws dirty oily blowby vapours into the intake. This can and usually will deposit on the backsides of intake valves and can cause serious buildup if the engine is very worn.

But ofcourse it is still advisable to run a PCV otherwise moisture will not be extruded from the engine crankcase sufficiently and this will cause the famous white sludge on short trips or in colder climates.

With a PCV system in place you adjust the timing and carb so it makes no difference in the way the engine runs. It's called tuning.

Thanks... I get it. I found a breather/pvc combo at Pep boys for 7 bucks.
