i took the heads off of a mid 80s dodge 360 motor and i noticed the vavles had two springs, and the valves were completly flat on bottom, with no dimples. were these stock or did someone do some work on these?

Sounds like some one has been in it before. If the inner spring has flat coils it is a damper not a spring. Some hi performance engines came with dampers.

i have seen mid 80`s 360`s that have a dampner, its not a double spring, unless someone changed it out. if the inner "spring" is flat, not round its a dampner, not a spring.
