200 lbs will help a lot in hooking consistently, but it's not a "guarantee". That's part of the reason why I got frustrated with local bracket racing. Some tracks just don't put the time, work and traction compound down through the whole race to keep it as good as it can be. I do realize that it does get expensive and a lot of work, but I expect to be beaten by a competitor on a "level playing field", not beat by the track!
Sometimes "stuff" happens despite the best effort of the track. The fact that race rubber mixing with street rubber doesn't help slick-equipped cars doesn't help either. The personal choice that I made doesn't help and that is running radial slicks. Bias ply slicks are more consistent than radial slicks, but the radials are faster. I'm fine at IHRA class races. But I don't want to spend the time and money needed for another different set of slicks that also affects reaction times.
