69'Newport.
When wipers are off, they won't go in to park position behind back of hood. Switch? Motor?
Any ideas, Thanks

Hi Mike,
The motor (or more correctly the PARK portion of the motor) is your problem. Probably just dirty. When you disapply power to the motor it's supposed to carry on with a 'contact' until it reaches the park position which just happens to be the end of the 'contact' arc.
If you pull the cover off the motor you'll see what I'm talking about. It's pretty obvious once you get it apart. Watch the washer position when you pull it apart.
hope this helps, Jim

I forgot about that, they stop cold when switch is off. so 69Dart440 I believe is correct about the motor not switching to "park"
Thanks Nitrousn

Does it have a 3spd motor? Three speed motors lay over to the side (like the ones you saw in my ad). Two speed motors stick straight out. There is a difference in switches and the linkage between the two.

John, I have low, high, and off on the switch. I'll have to look at motor.
Thanks again.

If its the 2sp wiper, its the parking mechanism. Its the plastic ring with the inner plastic cam and spring that is under the rubber cover, where the arm attaches to the moter arm. They should still be available from the dealer, at least they where 5 years ago when I got a kit for the Satellite. It was also the same kit for my late '70 Fury, so it should work for your '69.

Sounds like you have a two speed motor. If so, then its more than likely what satellite6 mentioned. I had a Coronet that the plastic cam was bad and I replaced the linkage with linkage from a three speed motor. I could get the wipers low on the glass, but they wouldn't park anymore.

Three speed motors don't have the cam to park the wipers like 2spd wipers do. The linkage mounts to the motor by a simple bushing like how the linkage attaches to the wiper pivots.

To park the blades, the motor polarity is reversed, the motor runs in the opposite direction and a set on contacts in the motor open when the parking position is reached. In order to accomplish this there must still be keyed 12V at one contact on the motor housing when the switch is in the OFF position and the switch has to be grounded.

So, I have a variable speed motor (3speed) and it could be the switch(I'm looking at a continuity chart in a 67' service manual)or a ground and I should be able to "hot wire" it to park position as a test.
Am I correct?
Thanks JK!

They travel in an even sweep on both ends. I don't want to force them into park position.

sounds to me you have a 3 speed motor and a 2 speed switch. I looked at your pic of motor and that is a 3 speed or varible , but if you have off, low and high you have a 2 speed switch and they will not work together you must use a 3 speed switch with a 3 speed motor , been thru that already. changed the switch and perfection was achieved. They are different

Definatly a three speed. You need a switch. On the '71 I had, I switched over to three speed wipers. When I added the switch for the three speed wipers, there was one wire not used on the two speed switch that was just taped back into the harness. Unwrapped the wire and hooked everything up. No fab work needed.
