Hello to all. I have a question pertaining to 2nd generation Chargers. I have a 1970 Charger non R/T just a 318 car and wanting to convert to a '68. I'm going to list the obvious differences and would appreciate any help of what I may have missed:

Front fenders
Front bumper
Hood
Grille
Rear tail lights
Rear valance
side marker lights
Doors (interior lock position)
Interior dash pad
Interior cluster/ignition
Bucket Seats
Door panels
I think I covered all that I know. I like the '68 much better. I wouldn't do this to a R/T though but it's just a 318. Is there any sheet metal issues other than what I mention? Body lines? Frame?
Thanks Moparts

The metal frame of the dash is different. Besides the ignition being in the dash on the 68, the pads hold on different. Also
the dash wiring harness is different. Have to change the steering column too. Still more on the dash you will need all the panles not just the cluster; radio plate, piece above glovebox and ends also.

And when you say rear tail lights realize its the whole back panel, not just lights. With the grille the whole headlight openeing system is different too.

Oh and dont forget the gas cap

Personally I would think it would be cheaper and easier to start with a 68 instead of killing a 70. Unless all those parts are bad on the 70 to begin with. But hey I've biased towards 70's.

But.......... if you decide to do it I could possibly use the fenders if in nice shape.

while I agree the 68 is better looking, it would take a lot to get a 70 into a 68. If you car is like mine an XH charger you will also need to drill the upper door for the padded uppers. Lots of plastic in a 70 (which makes it easier to "restore") If you have a basket case then go for it, if you have a nice 70 shell or starter, leave it a 70. Want cool add a 4 speed and dana or my fave a 6-pack.

Instead of destroying a 70 Charger, why wouldn't you get rid of it and just buy a 68 if that's what you really want. I'm gonna say that makes just a wee bit more sense

Thanks guys! Guess I should've been more clear of what I have. It's a '70 Charger 318 car rolling rusty shell that I had bought due to some family issues. Practically was handed to me I paid shipping handling etc. So I wasn't looking to buy a '70 and always loved the '68. But I couldn't just let this go to a yard. It's a roller as I said with NO doors, fenders, hood, trunk lid, grille, bumpers, dash, glass, gas tank, tail lights, interior, steering column etc. Just the shell, K member and rear end on wheels. Hope that clears the air for you '70 lovers. At least I'm not making it into the 100,000th General Lee LOL.

So basically cut out the rear quarters and tail panel sheet metal replace with '68 quarter panels and the tail panel. And the rest is all bolt on '68 stock.

Did I miss something? Thanks in advance.

yeah you could just get 68 stuff and roll. If the 1/4's aren't toast you could fill the long marker lights and drill the 68's. A few things, the 70 uses a different harness and steering column. Sounds like BIG project.

Too bad you aren't so fond of the '70. I love their look...

thnaks but thos color hides a lot of flaws...lol If I had my choice I'd have a black 68. 68-9 body parts are easier to find as well. If you want to go on the cheap side you could always order a complete front "glass" clip for the thing. I almost bought a rough 68 383 4 speed car that had 70 Interior, it looked good. The 70 Int is nicer than the 68. Since your car will be a combo why not just pick out what you like about each year and roll. Or you could even make a 69 500. A coronet grill is going to be way way less than a 68 and much easier to install. FWIW if I had the room in my garage this would be a 70 Daytona
