98 Intrepid. Starting fine when cold. After reaching operating temp and shutting off for roughly ten minutes starts and misses. If you can keep it running by giving throttle will smooth out and run fine. Sometimes during these episodes she dies and then is a very hard to start. No fault codes, dont see any black smoke when this occurs, giving 24 to 25 mpg when driving gently. I have replaced cam sensor and crank sensor with genuine Mopar. Also put new plugs in when I replaced sensors.

Sounds like a leaking injector. Might be a bad map sensor, would be real easy to figure out with a scanner showing live data. The injectors you could test by hooking up a fuel preasure gauge and see if it drops away when you leave it with the key off.

Have a fuel pressure test gauge at work and will check that this weekend. Sounds like a good place to start. Temps here great so the Harley is seeing more miles than the car. LOL. Thanks for the advise and will post findings.

Did you check TSB's ? Seems to me there may have been a TSB on that but not positive. Ron

Probably a fuel pump check valve going bad. My 3.5 2001 300M does the same thing. There is a check valve on/in the fuel pump assembly that is supposed to maintain fuel pressure for the next start. If it leaks pressure off, you have no pressure for hot restart. My guess is that on cold start the computer sends an extra rich shot of gas and she will light off normally.

Test for you (that works on my 3.5), On a hot restart if it does not want to fire instantly... cycle your key completely off, then back on to start. This makes my 3.5 fire right off right away on the second attempt.

Your Intrepid probably has a drain plug on the bottom of the gas tank. This makes it easier to drain the fuel and drop the tank for fuel pump replacement. I have not replaced mine yet (104K miles) but the time is drawing near..., on my "to do" list. My bet is a new fuel pump assembly will make it start like new when hot or cold.

That said, I'm not 1/2 as smart as Dave or Ron, so do your checks, your experience may vary (official disclaimer)

Usually if the fuel pump check valve is leaking it has a long crank time when cold as the press drops off during the night. When hot it usually starts fine as the press does not usually drop off right away or may drop from 50 to 20-25 or so. But when they sit for hrs fuel press will drop to zero with leaking check valve. I thought I remembered a TSB about running rough on hot starts but I think it was only with a nearly full fuel tank. Rom
