I want to replace the windshield in the Charger. I'd just have a pro do it, but I need to repaint the top of the dash and replace the dash vents while the glass is out. I have a repro window rubber that I ordered in 2002. It is still soft and pliable.
How hard are these windshields to install correctly? I've installed a few windshields and backlites, but never on a B body. Obviously I want a leak-free installation. Any suggestions for success? Thanks!

I had my dash out when I repainted it. Its not difficult to do as long as you mask the pass. compartment off and your cowl. A nice satin black will bring it back to life. As far as doing the windshield yourself, its a feat upon itself. I had some pro's do it on my 70 Charger, ones who did all my cars and they came out with their truck and installed it...a month later I was caught in a down pour and the windshield started leaking dead center right at the top of the seal. I was driving by their shop and decided to drop by and they went around the entire windshield with the black sealant in the caulking gun. Squeezed it on to the glass and razor'd the excess off...it stuck and I was happy. I wouldn't wanna do it myself...

my 69 windshield installation went in without a problem and never leaked...luck of the draw though. Maybe the vinyl top on the 70 Charger had something to do with it.

Isn't an elipsis supposed to be 3 dots, and not 4?

when i did my coronet, took the old w/s out myself. didn't matter if it cracked,of course it didn't.cut through old gasket.removed and detailed dash. called local glass guy that comes to you, did install in my garage. also bought w/s from him, good price. wasn't worth breaking new glass trying to do it myself.

The trick to get it to not leak is "heavy drip check sealer". It comes in a small tube. Put a bead in the groove that lips over the body flange along the top and sides. Use a clothes line rope in the groove to pull the rubber over the flange. This is a two person job as one guy pulls the rope and the other holds pressure and slaps the glass down into place. Check and recheck to make sure the glass is centered from side to side. Once the seal is completely lipped over the flange and the glass is in place, put some more drip check sealer between the glass and seal along the top and sides.. Then push the flap into place that locks the seal. Clean off any excess sealer and install your chrome trim. Make sure all your clips are in place before you rope the glass in.

I think unless you have done one before, just call a glass company. I doubt it will cost more than $100. AND it will be done right.

Most of the time I was getting a new one due to the west texas sand pitting it all up but my glass shop has held on to mine for a while so I could get stuff done and them call them back out to reinstall.

When you call around, ask if they have any installers that have been around for a while and have done it before!
