When I got my '70 GTX out recently, the A/G didn't work properly. It raises up about a 1/4 inch, but no more. Is the problem likely in the actuator? Or the switch? Or somewhere else? Appreciate any help, thanks!

A qwik test of the system is to run a vacuum hose directly from the intake nipple to the actuator bypassing the switch, solenoid and storage cannister.

Just my $0.02..

Hmmm..... hadn't thought of that, thanks. I'll try that when I get time. At least that would rule the actuator in or out.

Inspect your hoses closely....I had a mouse chew through mine a few years back during winter storage. The damage was just outside the firewall.

Take the hood off and give to me!

On a more serious note, it is likely a vacuum leak. Could be a bad line as mentioned above, or could be a slight crack at one of the connection nipples on the back of the switch (old switches get brittle).

Good luck!

Check for mechanical interference as well, especially if there have been modifications made in the engine compartment.
The actuating rod for the scoop could be making contact with an object under the hood.

I've inspected the hoses, didn't find anything, & nothing under the hood has been changed that would cause interference, plus I've run it with the hood open while trying to find the problem.

And I'm really hoping it's not the switch, mostly because these brittle old bones don't contort under the dash as well as they used to!
