Hello,
This is my first post, I hope I do it right.

Was a steering coupler ever made with the 'tall body' that will fit a manual steering box?

I have a manual steering coupler that has a 'short body' and a power steering coupler that has a 'tall body'. With the short coupler, it is just a bit too far away from the steering gear. The 'long body' would be perfect, but the hole is too big. Any ideas?

Hello and welcome to the board. Your steering column can expand to make up this difference. If you have your column out you should see 2 plastic sheer pins in the column which may or may not be broken already. If they arent broken try and remove them so you can reuse them. Once out you should be able to lengthen the steering column to the right length, there should be a set of holes in the inner shaft that line up with the holes in the outer shaft. Reinsert the old sheer pins or use nylon screws.

Just a little FYI.

Those are not sheer pins but injection molding holes for a plastic material that was used to support and hold the two shafts together. In an accident the shaft can collapse. If you shorten the shaft it may not collapse in an accident and may cause further injury. If you lengthen it it may not stay together. I doubt this very much since I believe there is plenty of overlap but why risk it.

You have two problems when going from power to manual or vice versa. The shaft length and the size of the spline on the coupler.

Here are a couple of options that safely solve both problems

On this page go all the way to the bottom and there is a part ST-SCA.

there may be other suppliers to provide parts for this situation.

Hopefully someone will chime in.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I should have said that steering column is a frankenstein made when I went from a "three on the tree" to a floor shift. I got an upper 'can' setup off of the E-bag and put it on my column. The bearings and everything up top fits, the issue I have is the lower part seems shorter. I marked the steering shaft before I removed it and it is in the same position. I'm about 1/2 inch away from being able to use the small coupler.
My car always had manual steering and I can't find the origional steering coupler. I did have the two couplers to compare and he long coupler should cover the shoes. The problem with the long coupler I have is it has a power steering spline and won't work on the manual box. I guess I'm just wondering if Ma Mopar made a coupler that was tall but with manual box splines?

I bought a Firm Feel universal coupler to get rid of the mopar coupler and I couldn't be happier.
