A friend is trying to give me some 2 cycle oil as he is cleaning out his garage. Was wondering if it can be used in a automotive engine?

The oil is unmixed of course.

WHY? ...are you planning on putting it in the crankcase or the gas tank? and again....WHY???
Neither is advisable.

In the crankcase.
Why because he has a lot of it and if it was usable in an automotive application I would use it. I have found that it has too low a flash point to effectively use in the crankcase.

Well, I ran 5 quarts through the '64Dog with no ill effects. I'd sure use it, one or two quarts at a time. What kind of flash point are you talking about? The oil doesn't get above say 220 degrees F in the crankcase.

My dad use to run a liter of tranny oil in his engine 500 miles before an oil change,he explained that 2 stroke oil was also useful because both are high in detergent??? that cleaned everything up inside,I was there for many oil changes and he would always say "feel how heavy that filter is"....and it was, that's all crap building up in your engine he said........another time my 350 chevy was popping through the exhaust at high rpm.......he told me to dump a liter of tranny oil in the gas tank with a fill.....1/2 a tank, problem solved. So i have to believe there's some truth to this

If it's TC-W3 rated, it's a tried trick to mix it in the gasoline at a very small 400:1 ratio; 1 oz per 5 gallons.

The idea behind it is the gas today is very dry with much of the lubircity taken out and replaced with corrosive ethanol. The TC-W3 is ashless and burns completely in the combustion chamber while lubrcating the the top end of the engine, e.g., valves, pistons, piston rings.

Got it in the car right now. Don't knock till you try it. But only TC-W3 and only at 400:1.
