I am having some clutch linkage issues on my 71 cuda 440-6.

For some reason the pedal wont come back up all the way and the overcenter spring keeps pushing it down the floor. I have to lift it with my toe and then it will come up and there will be zero pressure on the fork and throuout bearing.....so when im shifting fast obviously I cant do that, and I have burnt the cltch like 3 times so far.....real bad!

I am using a McLeod Pressure plate.

Any input or suggestions? Anybody had similar issues before?

I have been told to just pull the overcenter spring out....but wont that cause the pedal to be way to stiff? Also, will the small spring on the fork be enough to completely lift pressure off the throwout bearing to avoid constant rub when the pedal is not being pressed?

I'm not a stick guy but I'd think mismatched parts or the adjuster rod needs to be unthreaded out longer. W pedal depressed how much freeplay do you have between 'wheel/disc?

all clutch linkage is OEM correct.

Only thing not OEM in there is the McLeod pressure plate and disc.

The one time way back when I ran a stick the pedal would only come partly up & lengthening the adjuster rod solved it. I Hope your solution is that easy

That would probably solve the problem....

In fact thats the way I have solved it. I backed it all the way to almost its very edge and that will make the pedal go past the "dead point" of the overcenter spring and send the pedal up to the bump stop, but then the clucth engage/disengage spot its way to high up, which makes shifting fast a lot harder.

any other suggestions?

Install a clutch pedal stop (piece of wood or?)under the carpet to stop the pedal from going past center, I had to adjust my clutch linkage on my old NHRA stocker 1970 Barracuda with a hemi motor and trans so the clutch would start disengaging about or less than a 1/2 inch from the top of the pedal travel The pedal stop is a old drag racing trick invented for the GM crowd with diagfram(SP?) clutches to stop blowing up the motors when the clucth pedals would stick on the floor in them that Mopar stick racers adopted back when

so you mean i keep the over center spring to aid in pedal effort, adjust the clutch so the overcenter spring pulls it up, doesnt matter if its too far up, and then just limit pedal travel on the downward motion (towards the floor pan) so that the pedal travel is shorter and I dont blow off my clutch when power shifting???? did i get it right???

stock linkage will have a spring from fork to bellhousing, adjust linkage so you have 1/4-1/2 freeplay in pedal, if you have been burning clutchs most likly did not have enough freeplay

all parts are sold as is, all parts are considered used no warranties or returns
paypal/check/money order, shipping is from zip 02891, buyer pays paypal fees 24% IRS 1099A plus 3% of part price, check/money order preferred
site is not monitored 24/7 there might be a delay in response

Remove the o/c spring.

Remove the O/C spring and install a return spring from the clutch fork to the bellhousing just below the starter motor area.
This will give you all the adjustment you need and the proper air gap to boot.

One other suggestion place a block on the face of Clutch pedalwrap it with duct tape and use nylon ties around it. Had a problem with clutch similar to yours and this solved it
