I have an MSD 6AL and blaster II coil and a stock distributer on my 440. While the car was running I noticed the positive teminal smoking. It almost looked like it had a blue ingition spark coming out of it not going into it. I tightened both terminals ( + and - ) and started the car but it still does it. Now I see what looks like oil or burnt plastic coming out of the top of the stud on the + terminal. Any ideas ?

Might have overtightened it and cracked the post. They are easy to break with a ham fisted touch.

It wasn't super tight but after I saw it smoking I thought it was too loose and I was able to get another 1/2 turn on it. The black stuff is coming up from the top of the stud like it has a pin hole in it or something. Nothing is coming from the threaded area or the sides like the stud is stretched or cracked. Did MSD out start getting these coils to china ???

It is dead. Watch out for the oil. I have a coil that matches to the MSD 6. Give me a call or pm.

I believe I have less than 2 hours actual run time on this coil..But I bought it about a year ago. Is there a better stock type coil than MSD ? Or is it all the same garbage with different labels on them ?

My last one was junk.

I went to barely tight down the nut on one of the terminals and it broke.

After I got the coil out I was able to look at closer. The terminals are hollow and they have the hole soldered closed at the top it looked like mine was not soldered correctly and the solder fell off. I don't think the solder melted because I couldn't see any signs of melted solder near the hole or on the threads where it would have run down ( Coil is mounted vertical ). O'reilly's gave me a new coil but I'm going to call MSD this morning just to make sure I don't have something wrong that caused this to happen. I will let you know what happened after I call.

Kind of funny but the guy I talked to at MSD didn't even know the terminals were hollow or that the were soldered until he went and got one to look at. The coil was just defective I put the new one in and it runs pretty dang good. One gremlin chased off ....... NEXT !!!!!!
