I've got a 1970 model 383 that i took apart to replace the rear main seal. When i had it apart i noticed the main bearings where pretty worn.

here is the thread for that
https://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/show...e=3#Post7103490

The connecting rod bearings were not nearly as bad, and i'm deciding what to do.

The .040 cylinder bores look pretty good, and for the most part i'm just thinking about turning the crank, and installed new main and rod bearings to get the engine going again.
I have 906 heads, and i don't know if the block or heads have been cut at all.

I found a set of trw L2315 pistons for sale on craigslist that i could get for $200 brand new in box. Since there is no crosshatching on the cylinders i was thinking of having the bores honed for $6 a bore.

Could i just buy those pistons and stick them in the engine with the freshened crank and new bearings?
I'm just looking to juice up the motor for the street.

Any help would be appreciated as i have never done this much engine work, and don't want to waste money. And as much as i want to, i think just building is 440 is probably out of the budget.

Are those pistons the high compression race pistons or a replacement flat top piston? If the race piston you may need to have the motor rebalanced and possibly have a detonation issue on pump gas, it all depends on how much actual compression the motor ends up having

I posted it over in question and answer, and got most of my questions answered.there flat top pistons, and with my 92cc heads they should give just under 9:1 compression. I got word from the machinist that i could get away with just turning the mains on the crank and putting in oversized bearings. So i think i'm just gonna hone the cylinders stick the pistons back in there and run it as is until i can build a 440.

thanks

Good plan. I would have concerns about ramming the new rings in to the old ring ridge.

All of the stock B and RB motors came with press fit wrist pins, if your changing the pistons out have the rotating assembly checked for proper balance

Sorry i don't think i made that very clear. Since i thought the engine was gonna need alot of machine work, i figured i'd go ahead and beef it up while i was at it. But since i can get away with only a main journal grind, i'm just gonna do that and replace the bearings. All the while just sticking the pistons that were originaly in the engine, back in. I'll save the money spend on pistons and other parts to build a 440 on the side, so i can just throw the engine into the car when the time comes.

thanks

It was not mentioned, but I assume you know you will still need
new piston rings and a little honing of the cyclinders.
