has anybody used one of these carbed crate hemis? any god or bad comments? thinking about using one in a Po Touring 65 dart. It's gonna be an all around cruiser that may see some autocross and an occasional track day? also curious does the alt for the new stuff require the factory computer? or does something else have to be adapted to the motor?

It's basically a 2003-2005 5.7 truck engine with chrome valve covers, unique intake with the carb, and a unique computer and harness setup. It'll bolt to an LA trans, but the flywheel or flexplate needs to be a dedicated g3 hemi part. Built by the same plant that builds OE chrysler engines today in Saltillo Mexico.

The truck oil pan won't fit your car so that would need to be swapped.

For the alternator you would use an 03-05 truck alt, and the computer the engine comes with is set up to act as a voltage regulator. Plug it in and go.

If a person did not want to use that, didn't like the computer it was shipped with or whatnot, he could also easily wire up a 1970 style external regulator since the alt has the same wiring scheme as the old stuff from that era (one output, field -, field +).

It is a good motor, and it has the most user friendly simplest computer setup MP ever sold for the gen 3 hemi. There are, literally, about three wires to hook up...everything else is factory terminated and you just plug it in.

Since the factory switched to VVT/VCT in 2009, they haven't been available for awhile now. The one on ebay right now seems like a good value as long as it has been stored nicely as they say in the auction.

Thanks, sounds like it would be a real good fit for this car. The oil pan is no problem as the car will have a 2x3 chassis under it and the pan and serpentine belt look like it will work better than a small block with the rack. And even with the parts I have I will be into the small block for close to the same money by the time it's done. Already have a A518 to go behind either one so the Hemi factor just may win lol
