I had one once. I've heard it wasn't that unusual.

My 70 Road Runner has the original radiator with a tag soldered on top of the stamped part number. I have heard that this was not so un-common. Many of the tanks had the same size and shape. If the supplier ran short on a particular part number tank they would just use the added tag to identify it.c

Yes, I had one too. The tag had the same number as the stamped top but thats not always the case.

It is pretty common. If the vendor (18398 Blackstone Jamestown, New York, 20446 Blackstone Statford, Ontario) were making a different tank with the correct connection location, they would stamp out a tag to solder over the incorrect # and assemble the rest of the radiator with the correct parts. I have pictures somewhere on my computor of 6 differently shaped 2998956 overlay tags. this processes could have been done on almost any day of production. Tough to justify stamping out 10 tanks of any number with all the setup time involved. At least this is what my dealings have turned up.
