Ive got a 2002 Chrysler Sebring 2.4 litre engine in it that my doughter drives while away at college. She calls me the other day and says it got hot while drivingit. she took it to a repair shop they looked at it and said it was out of coolant.they put some in it (she says a gallon jug full and sent her on her way.I told her to recheck it in the morning and add some if needed when she got out there there was a good size puddle under it she added 2 qt of coolant ck the oil it was ok i said i will be there in the morning to look at it.I added 2 qt of coolant and saw it had been leaking saw drops under the engine so I drove it home 2 hrs watched the temp gauge stopped and cked it it was ok never got hot never used any coolant at all. What gives ? I can not find a leak anywhere on this engine.Any ideas?

Waterpumps tend to leak intermittently... Use mirror & inspect for a drain hole below the shaft....

The Neon my daughter drives had a slow leak. I looked all over and couldn't find it. She drove it for a few months, adding coolant every couple weeks. We finally found it when the radiator let go like old faithful... luckily as she was pulling up to my shop to check her tires.

It was a slow leak in the core which evaporated while driving. It was in a hard to see spot so the teltale white deposit from evaporating anti-freeze wern't visible. A $100 radiator from "radiators.com" and a few hours work got it fixed up.

My suggestion is to go all over it with a flashlight and try to find the teltale white deposits. Another suggestion is to fill it up, drive it to warm up then park it overnight in a spot where you can inspect it. If there is a puddle, trace it up to potential sources. around the engine.

Water pump and the stat housing are known for leaks. That and check the hose for the overflow at the stat housing.Did the belt and pump on the wifes 2.4 and had another leak. Was the stat housing.Had to snip the overflow hose also as when it got hot it would leak some.Rocky

Check the 2 steel water lines that run from the front of the motor back to the heater core. They are attached to the top side of the passenger side frame rail under the motor mount with two 10 millimeter bolts. They usually rust at the mounting points.

Ok, first how many miles is on the car? Is it a four cyl? When the water is disappearing and NOT going on the ground after sitting there running for a while and given the time to run down and drip, there in only other place it can go... into the cylinders. The space between the cylinders is very small and these are open block engines, so the head gasket kinda works up and down untill it brakes then every bit of the water will go right out the tail pipe. With the engine running stick your nose down and smell the exhaust, does it smell like cooked antifreeze? I've hade this happen twice, and the same thing both times. If your kucky, on these motors when you fill them up with water there will be steam pockets that take several days of driving and adding water to work them out of the system. No big deal just work it, i have 418,000 miles on my Neon with the original motor.

And if you have any worm-drive regular hose clamps on that car, take them off and put spring clamps back on it. That new of car should have all spring clamps anyway.
