Hi,
I am a new member. This is my first post, but I have been around reading threads for a few years.
I have a 71 charger with a 440 in which I am in the process of rebuilding this winter. When I removed the engine this fall I noticed the engine wiring harness was pretty brittle and in sad shape. I am about to order one from year one and they have 2 to choose from, with and without electronic ign. My question is which is the better one to get? My car had the factory dual point ign removed and an electronic ign. kit installed by a previous owner. Will the electronic harness fit properly or should I get the points harness and make the nessesary mods to it ?

Welcome to Moparts, I am fairly new myself.

I believe the harness that is for electronic ignition is set up for a 4 prong ballast resistor. It is up to you but if it were me I would go with the stock harness and make the mods to it.

I have the 2 wire ballast resistor. I was thinking about going the same route as you suggested and buy the stock harness. Between now and spring when my engine is ready to install I might even decide to put a dual point dist. in instead of the electronic. I do have one from a 413/426 that I could use.

A member bought a YO engine harness for his 72 Satellite for a 440 and got it for Electronic ignition and I am 99% sure it didn't come setup for a 4 prong ballast .

John,
The electronic conversion M+H harness I used in the Cuda did indeed have the wiring plugs for a 4 prong ballast, and I don't remember if the ECU plug was wired for a 4 or 5 wire unit !!!

Do you want to keep a 2 post ballast? Is that why one would not want to electronic harness?
