I was reading firm feels site about using a 74 and up box in the older cars so you can use the cheaper newer pitman arm.

is it that simple? or some catch to it?
Pitman arms seem to be 150 to 190 for the older cars. The new one list for 44 to 81 bucks.
A rebuilt gear box from autozone or oriely is 115. Can't see spending 399 on a firm feel box for a cruiser vs road racer.

don't need the rebuilt box, but can't see spending 150 bucks on just a pitman arm either.

I have done a little research on the difference in the steering boxes and what I found was you can use the 73-74 Box and pitman arm on older cars.

Is there a difference in length between the newer and older arms? If so you need to change the idler arm. That would require building a new mount on your K-frame.

Pitman arm length & effective shape are the same, the pitman shaft is larger so the hole in the arm is larger to match.. The high pressure fitting that the hose attaches to needs to be kept off the old box...
