My 452 heads came in from aerohead yesterday. Just by visual inspection they appear to be very clean and well assembled.

Thanks to everyone for your responses! Aluminum is looking more attractive.

440 Source's Stealth aluminum head, complete, for $497.50? That'd be my bet, I'd think...

Dwayne (fast68) has a few sets for sale in the BB parts for sale section here if you want to get an idea of what a ported set of OEM heads can cost and flow. For a mostly stock build I would get a good valve job and call it a day.

Except, every set of BB Mopar heads I've ever had freshened up needed valve guides and some of the tips where the rocker rub can be pitted quite often.

CNC'ing heads for "mostly stock" build is too pricey. Buy an electric Sears die grinder, a few carbide cutters and have at it if you really want a set of ported heads. Just opening up the bowls can make a big difference. If you hurt a head, big deal, factory iron castings can be had around here for $50 a pair or less.

Dean, Didn't know sears had an elec. die grinder, would you happen to have a part # because i've tried googling there tools & come up jack squat. Thanks.

Found this, seems to be the only one sears offers for 192.00, nice rig, but for 250.00 you can buy a 30 gal. compressor at lowes & a 19.95 die grinder, then the compressor will come in handy for other things.

The old Craftsman die grinder was discontinued a couple years ago .

Still can purchase it thru remaining stock, whether at swap meets, tool sales or maybe E-Bay.
May be able to find one at a MAJOR pawnbroker/flea marketer who buys/sells power equipment and tools. Never know till you search. They're STILL around!!

Hey, I honestly took for granted the electric die grinders from Sears was still available. My bad. Bought mine 20+ years ago.

In hindsight, unless you rig a footpedal in series to vary rpm............you're better off saving your $$ and getting a small compressor and a pneumatic grinder for porting. The sears unit I have has overrev'd my bigger cutters to the extent that they have bent them.

Bottomline: Home porting can be done cheap and, with a common sense approach, it'll add HP and not kill your TQ.

I knew the point you were trying to make, Dean! If you are "bucks-down", the lowbuck
home porting makes good sense providing that you
do not go OVERBOARD! Patience, time, a steady hand and a well-thought pattern/template are ALL good virtues. The results won't net you a KILLER set of ported heads (that's the pros job to do), but as Dean said: boost HP and increase torque output over the stock numbers. A little more efficiency for the cost.
