I have a 89 318 TBI Ramcharger that is no longer road worthy. I also have a 318 2 barrel in my Newport.

Thoughts of putting the TBI onto my Newport motor have been crossing my mind for the sake of better reliability and fuel economy.

What is involved? What needs to be swapped?

Thanks for the advice.

Robert

IMHO,I would not do it,to much wires/work/issues

i would just get a 4-v intake and good carb and be done with the BBD carb on it.

I have put many stock intakes with a 70s q-jet on them and dial the tune in and get 19-10 mpgs ot of a 318 in my trucks.

just pulled a tbi set up off a 91 318 and stuck a voodoo roller cam in it for my 85 truck, back to 19 mpgs and some HP for street duty

I would swap to the 89 engine and go roller cam in the newport with a small 4-v and headers or mannys and duels

I'm with Scratchn on this. Unless you drive your Newport every day I can't see the benefits to the TBI. If you are set on doing it, get yourself the TBI setup off a mid-90s 305 chevy engine like from a truck. Use the 747 ECM. The MOPAR setup is relatively unknown compared to the chevy system.

Changing the factory 2-bbl to a Holley 600 on my '64Dog 318 gave me a whole different feeling engine. Plus it's tunable, you can go to the parts store and buy jets.

That roller 318 is light years ahead of your older 318 and it'd be a much better starting point. Heads have better combustion chambers and the factory roller cam can be reground by Bullet Cams to something that will run great while still having really good driveability. Member Patrick on this board is sort of the leader on this.
