I'm embarrassed to ask this but....my 98 Ram 3500 Dually has been stallng out at idle sometimes, usually after warming up. I am guessing fuel filter but where is it located? Local parts store had it listed as "non-seviceable"?

Its part of the pump unit. There is a primary filter on the bottom that could be a nylon screen or a round paper unit. Then there is a secondary unit on top thats silver which is what the fuel line hooks to. This is also the pressure regulator. To do them, the pump needs to come out. If you have some miles on it, you would be better off replacing the pump module instead of just the filters [ the nylon unit can't be replaced anyway]. Also put a new fuel pump relay in. If the old one is sketchy, it will take the new pump out due to lack of voltage. I learned this the hard way. I'm more inclined to think you need to clean the throttle body and A.I.S. or I.A.C. motor since these being dirty will cause stall issues too. Get a tb gasket, some Berrymans and an old toothbrush and have a scrub party.

yeah the throttle body was my first thought as well since i have had to clean the ones on our v6's for years (92 3.0 acclaim and 96 3.8 T&C) so i'll try that plus a couple cans of sea foam and see what happens...thanks...

Unless you have uncommonly good luck when placing a bet, why don't you see if you can locate a scan tool and see what it tells you? I bought my V10 some six months ago, and the first two purchases made for it were a scan tool and a shop manual.

With these newer vehicles these two items are a must have in both cost effectiveness as well as time and effort expended.

Hope the problem is found quickly and easily repaired.
