front end needs gone through on my 67 Satellite. Guess I'll take a stab at doing it myself. Any reason to NOT buy this kit? Anyone here used this kit before? Is there any difference from one to another? (I'm new to front end work, but willing to learn)

Budget is the main issue here. This is a weekend street / strip car & just needs a stock front end under it.

Hmmmm...

The kit looks complete, but I wonder.... Have you priced-out the same parts at your local autoparts store?

On my '71 Charger, I replaced the front-end parts in 2000. I don't recall the total parts bill as being that high ($254 plus $22 for shipping) but then again, it was 7-8 years ago.

It was do-able, but there were challenges, like getting the torsion-bars dislodged (they make a good clamp-tool to remove 'em with a sledge-hammer) and pressing the lower-control-arm bushings out of the arms was no picnic either.

A giant pipe-wrench came in handy for unscrewing the upper ball-joints (though some are "press-In" type, mine were threaded.)

I media-blasted all the re-usable parts and painted/repainted.

A Factory-Service-Manual comes in handy too.

I got mine from Performance Suspension several years back (http://www.performancesuspension.com/) for $250 and it came very complete. I did it myself for the most part and had to run to the local parts store to get the loaner tool for the upper control arm bushings and for the socket to remove the upper ball joints. I had to take the lower control arms to a shop with a press to push the bushings out and the new ones in, the local shop only charged something like $20 to do those. Also check with whoever you buy the kit from about the metal sleeves from the lower control arm bushings, you usually have to save and reuse them when replacing the old ones with new rubber. Maybe those are repopped somewhere too now...?

Good info, guys... keep it coming. I'll make a list before I jump in. This will be my wintertime project.

With suspension parts you are going to get what you pay for. If I was you I would spend the little bit of extra cash now and get all Moog stuff if you can. While you are it opt for the later tie rods since they are larger and were cheaper last time I checked.

On our Challenger I bought a kit. Still had to buy a separate pitman arm. On the 64, I bought everything from Advance Auto and Rock Auto depending on who had the lowest price. It takes longer to compare prics, but you can choose which brand to buy. Came out cheaper buying it piecemeal. Advance had a deal where if you buy more than $50 and shipping weight is under 20 lbs, shipping is free. For Rock Auto, search this site for a 5% disount code (cuts shipping costs).

I thought there was a posting here a while ago about Moog. There were the pros and cons of using Moog. If I remember, there made in China, Japan and the fitting wasn't as good as some others One of the companies makes everything here in the USA.

Not trying to P.O anyone but if this is the case, I'd rather have a product that fits good as well.

Just keep an open mind

When I recently did the front end on my car, I got Summit Racing to pricematch Rockauto on the Moog components, and then saved a ton on money with Summits flat shipping rate.

Just figure out all the pieces you need from Rockautos catalog and reference back and forth. 30 mins of searched saved me almost $100.

You will also need to do a crude alignment to drive a short distance to an alignment shop or have it towed to the shop.

Here is a "Car Craft" article on how to do a Home-Alignment:

Is there a kit with everything you need for the front end rebuilt or do you have to buy them individually?

I can only assume that the kit I linked in the original post comes with everything you need. I want good components, but at the same time, this is no Porsche, no matter what we do. I really just want it to be solid rolling down the road, and something I feel confident in @ 100 MPH @ the strip.

Anyone? Or do you have to buy them all separate?

It depends on how much work you want to put into it, how much money you want to spend and how particular you are about the quality of parts you want. You can buy a complete kit or buy all the pieces individually. Most kits are cheaper than buying everything individually. However, some folks think the pieces in the kits are of lower quality, since they may be imported from who knows where. Here are two recent posts on this subject:

I bought all Moog components from Mancini when I did my '65 Belvedere I last year. I received the complete order shipment ( no back ordered items ) the next day after I placed the phone order. I forgot to mention Moparts, but I believe that Mancini gives a discount to Moparts members. Just my

I see that most replies are for Moog. Here's a question now: Is Moog as good or the same for Spicer as well? I don't see many good post for poly. I dont want to put in parts from Japan or China in my Mopar

Thanks

It would be nice to get the complete Moog parts for this job and post it in the tech archives. I am looking to do this same jobe very soon and it would be handy to have those numbers to contact Summit.

If anyone doesn't do this by tomorrow night I can post up any numbers out of the moog catalog that you need. One problem I have found working in the auto parts industry is that no matter what the box says sometimes you will run across reboxed parts from changeovers or simply from shady individuals who swap parts and return the cheap parts in the expensive part's box. That why I ordered all of my Moog front end parts and made sure to check each part to make sure it was really a moog part and not some no name rebox.

How do you know if it is reboxed or not? Does Moog put the P/N's on the parts? Also, Is moog better than Spicer? I would like the P/N's for Moog as well, for my '71 RR...THANX
